Essex County Girls' Football League Under 15

League Cup Quarter Final

Sunday 7th March 2010

Redbridge 1 Chelmsford City 2

Elmbridge Club, Forest Road, Barkingside, Ilford.

City travelled to Barkingside to take on their bogey team with an under strength line up. With no regular goalkeeper available, Becky Bryant volunteered for the role and made the save of the game mid way through the first half with a full length dive to her left.

City dominated the play but lacked the cutting edge and the teams went in all square at the break. A change at half time brought in Mollie DuBell for Millie Richards and the affect was instant with DuBell timing her run to perfection to beat the off side trap and plant a shot beyond the Redbridge keeper.

The breakthrough goal made the rest of the City players step up a gear and goal number 2 followed soon after. Shannon Matthews rounding off some good attacking play with a chipped shot that squirmed through the keeper's hands and fortunately made it across the line.

An unfortunate slip by a City defender allowed Redbridge to pull a goal back and things looked bad when City lost their stand in keeper to injury. Rosie Coe stepped up to the mark and took over the keepers jersey and did an excellent job.

Full praise must also go to City’s Christy Hill who, although carrying an injury, insisted she came on for the remaining 10 minutes so that City could defend their lead with a full compliment of players on the pitch rather than play one short.

Overall, this was a fantastic team performance from a squad who clearly want to win something this year. Next up will be undefeated league leaders and cup favourites Southend Manor in the semi final.

Chelmsford City: Becky Bryant (Christy Hill), Shannon Jones, Shannon Matthews, Tayla Peel, Gabby Freedman, Rosie Coe, Rebecca Hinton (c), Katie Aldis, Millie Richards (Mollie DuBell).
