Club Secretary Dawn Barnard Wins Regional Unsung Sporting Hero.

Another Top Award for Club Secretary

Dawn being presented with her Unsung Hero Award at the prestigious annual ceremony which was held at the Weston Homes Community Stadium, Colchester, saw residents of Essex recognised for their sporting talent, with awards including Unsung Hero, Coach of the Year, Community Club of the Year and the coveted Sports Personality of the Year Award.

“It all seems surreal, the year just gets better and better, it’s amazing” enthused Dawn Barnard after she won another prestigious award on Wednesday evening (16^th Nov). Above Photo.

Having already scooped the ‘Unsung Hero’ award at the inaugural Active Chelmsford Sports Awards evening she was put forward and short listed for the Sport Essex Award held at Colchester United’s Western Homes Community Stadium. The show, which went live on air on BBC Essex, saw Dawn successful in scooping the top honour in the ‘Unsung Hero’ category. She has now been put forward and short listed for the Eastern Regional Award to be held in Bedford on Thursday 8^th December.

Sunday was a day to remember for one grassroots volunteer in Essex as Dawn Barnard was announced as the winner of the Outstanding Contribution to Grassroots Football award at Wembley Stadium before

The FA Community Shield between Manchester City and Manchester United.

Dawn, from Chelmsford, arrived at Wembley for the annual FA Community Awards presented by McDonald’s with seven other nominees for the award but was delighted to go home with the prize.

Having championed women’s and girl’s football in Essex for the last 25 years, Dawn also formed and played for Chelmsford City Ladies & Girls FC. In addition, she was instrumental in helping to create and run both the Essex County Girl’s Football League and the Essex County Women’s Football League.

Dawn has held numerous positions over the years and has successfully helped hundreds of young players make the transition from girl’s to women’s football.
